A meme that amused me...oh, and a brief update...

You Are a Cinnamon Raisin Bagel

You are warm, loving, and genuinely selfless.

You enjoy comforting other people, and you easily fall into the roll of caretaker.

Of all the types, you're the most likely to be an excellent cook.

You tend to have something delicious for breakfast that you've cooked up for everyone.

So I've had my first week of lectures!
I get mondays and friday afternoons off which is nice.
Lots of work, and I'm not really sure what's expected of me but I'm trying to stay positive.
Many people have said that they got low grades in the first year of uni because it takes a while to adjust to the teaching method...but I'm detirmined to avoid that if I can.
So many books to read, so little time!

I've also got some friends... I've never really had a big bunch of mates ever, but Liz, Debbie, Lois, Paul, and Rachel seem like a good place to start. I know more people than that but they are the few I feel that I can depend on. My flatmates are lovely too, and I'm the only Welsh person on this floor! Aberdare Hall is very multi-cultural and very pretty!!! I'm surrounded by trees and the Victorian hall is amazing! But I get to live in the Wing that was renovated over the summer, which means I have a matress that's never been used before, there's a fresh lick of paint on the walls, and most of the previous problems have been ironed out. The kitchen is HUGE, and so are the three showers. I haven't had to wait to have a shower since I've arrived which is pretty cool. Plus the Hall is quiet by midnight- rare for uni accomodation anywhere. I love living here. And it's really close to the Humanities building (literally 2 mins down the road)...

I do get homesick, but it helps that I know if I jumped on a train then I'd be home in 20 mins. And I've been 'Skypeing' home too. It's great to be able to hear my family's voices! Still miss them though. And the cat. And TV.

It doesn't feel like I've been here for 2 weeks but 2 years instead!
And I've been so busy that Freshers Fortnight has passed in a flash.
I am a fresher no longer.
I am a first year.

Wow.

So...

I am now a student at Cardiff uni!

Don't really know what to say atm...it's weird living away from home. Couldn't open my milk bottle this morning, so resorted to stabbing the plastic it with a knief. Milk went everywhere, etc. Good job no one was around to see that little episode.
Amy: 0 Milk Bottle: 1.

My room is shiny and new- was painted and refurbished this summer, so I'm the first to use it, which is quite nice. Have a lovely view of trees and the birds are quite chirrpy here. There are sirens every so often, but it's not that bad really.

Made a friend. Literally. His name is Mr. Square Pants, and he is a square of cardboard with a face drawn on. I haven't seen that many people here yet- so no real friends. :( Hope loads of people move in today...if I hear anyone on my floor, I'll offer to help them move their stuff...there are quite a few stairs to go up!

*facepalm* Still nervous. Haven't gone out to see the uni yet. Probably should do that.

Will go to the Pizza night this evening...if I can work out where the commumal area is. I think it's in the older part of Aberdare Hall.

I know I know...

I'm posting while on hiatus.
I never listen to myself anyway.

Just a quote that I found amusing:

When asked about favorite scenes (in S4, but it's not really spoilery...he may be joking, etc), Hatch said:

Putting my journal on semi-hiatus...

I'm moving out on Friday and I have loads of things to do before then... so I thought that I'd leave the online world for a while, til I've settled in uni and my laptop is connected to the network there. Apparently some websites get blocked... I don't know which ones yet. Cross your fingers for me that my fave sites won't get blocked!

Packing and my final farewell to the girls at Prize-Evening tomorrow.

Cardiff Uni...

So I know where I'm living now! In Aberdare Hall! I even know which Wing, which flat, which floor and which room I'm in, but I won't put that here...

Went shopping in Ikea and got some stuff that I need for uni- kitchen equipment, new bedding, and a cork board! I'm gonna make a collage of friends/family so I can remember all the people who have influenced me in a good way for the last few years.

Still got to get crockery though. I couldn't find a pattern that I liked, lol.

I've also ordered a few books so that I can get some reading done before I move in...

which will be the Friday 19th September.
Not long now...

The icon of book!

Advice needed...

So I just received a shortened version of the books that I need for Year One of the English Literature uni course. Some are SET books, and others are background reading... there are also some books that are recommended to be read before starting the course (but it's not compulsory).

What do I do now?
Buy and read as many books as possible?
Library?
Wait til the course starts and maybe get some second hand books?

What do I do with this list???

maybe closer

I've won an award!

I got a letter from my school inviting me to the annual Award Ceremony. I've only been twice before, either for overall good grades or for excelling (apparently) in Religious Studies, so I am happily surprised!

But I really wanted an English Literature award- it's my fave subject, and I generally do well in it... but I've never ever received one. During my GCSE's two other pupils and myself were nominated by the teachers for the English award, but they both beat me by one mark. I was gutted, especially as they were my two best friends and neither of them actually liked English Lit!

Anyhow, I'VE FINALLY WON THE ENGLISH AWARD!!!!!!
This is like the icing on the cake from my A2 Results!
*explodes from :D*

L behind B

It's that time of the year again...

The A2 results are out in two days.
I'm nervous and I'll admit it. Where I go to uni depends on these results...

So I ignored the anxiety yesterday at the cinema with the boys, today by shopping in the capital with my cousin (I got REALLY awesome deal at LUSH, btw- I spend £20 on bath bombs and got to pick a free gift from the back of the LUSH times, so naturally I picked the £25 mosturiser- Vanishing Cream which I have wanted forever but not been able to afford!!!) and tomorrow I'm holding a mates hand as she gets her hair cut...

Gotta stay busy and not think about it.

*runs off to watch Stargate: Continuum*

Awwwww...

Just returned home from watching 'Mamma Mia' at Nantgarw Showcase Cinema. It's a good summer holiday film (well, in my opinion anyway). The audience were even clapping and singing along! And it's been out for 3 weeks and the rows were still completely full.

But what was even cuter than the scrap of a plot revolving around ABBA songs (lol), was the couple next to me. Little old people! The man got up to get a beverage before the film began, so his wife turned to me and apologised for him stepping on my feet. She then asked me about 'Mamma Mia' because she was only "here because my husband loves the songs."

I nearly squeed my pants.

Then half way through the film, she was falling asleep... so her husband takes her hand, and reminds her not to snore! (Rather stubbornly) she remained awake after that and endured the rest of the film...still holding hands with her husband.

Awwwwwww....

ETA: I will get those snaps up of my holiday (in a locked post of course) but I uploaded them all in the wrong size on photobucket, so now I'm starting from scratch again.

Home is where the heart is...

Well, I'm back from Gran Canaria! *waves*

The flight home was 20 mins early, so that was nice. I think we arrived in Cardiff Airport around 11 pm, and were in the house by midnight. I have lots of photos if anyone wants a peek, and I learnt facts about the Island which disgusted my friends. Apparently, learning is not an option when on holiday.

Mellow is back from the cattery, and is looking a little thin... but my bonsai tree is healither than ever after the girls took turns bonsai-sitting.

And now I can collapse back into bed.
Life is good.

Dear neglected LJ,
Have had a busy few weeks, and (suprisingly) a social life! Shall be on holiday next week... *thinks of sunshine/glares at crappy Welsh weather* I can't wait!!!
This meme result amused me for obvious reasons...

More ramblings from moi...

I just read this A/R fanfic and it blew me away. Everything else that went before that fic has been put to shame! SHAME I say!

It was sooooooooooo incredibly good that I even forgot to be jealous. (And usually I tend to be that petty/childish/pathetic kind of person who does get jealous of other peoples greatness...)

At first, I didn't know how I'd ever write anything again, and I'm not just being melodramatic here (although that is pretty melodramatic). But now, I feel kind of inspired. The person has 10 years on me (as I checked the user profile), and I really hope that I get to that level one day.

Well, I can dream.
